Cheap Combat America Deluxe Edition Hollywood Stars at War

Some of Hollywood's brightest stars joined the fight against Facism. Featured on this DVD are three original WWII documentary and training films, featuring Clark Gable, James Stewart, and the actor who became President, Ronald Reagan.

In 1942 Clark Gable s wife Carole Lombard was tragically killed in an plane crash during a War Bonds tour. To escape his grief, Gable joined the U.S. Army Air Force and flew in combat as a B-17 gunner. He also made the film Combat America, a full color portrait of the air campaign.

Gable's cohort James Stewart was the first movie star to join up, enlisting even before December 7th. Stewart became a highly-decorated combat veteran who received the DFC. He also starred in the recruiting film Winning Your Wings.

Unable to serve in combat due to eyesight troubles, Ronald Reagan made a special effort to narrate and appear on-screen in WWII training films such as Identification of The Japanese Zero in which he plays a pilot who can't believe anyone can make an identification error, and then makes one himself!

Also featured on this DVD are two bonus films featuring famous narrators. In Tank, actor and director Orson Welles' smooth voice neatly describes the manufacture and performance of the Army's fortress on treads, the M-3 tank. In Bomber, written by famed American poet and historian Carl Sandburg, the process of constructing a machine of war is revealed to be a difficult yet vital chore that must be accomplished at all costs.

Films are in black and white and color. Please note, due to the age and rarity of these films, sound and picture quality may vary. This DVD is recorded in the DVD-R format and may not be compatible with older and first-generation DVD players. Check your player's instruction manual for more information. RelateItems
